New Zealand vs British & Irish Lions Live

Warren Gatland has named an strong, experienced XV as he looks to end New Zealand’s formidable record in Auckland.

The All Blacks have not been beaten at Eden Park since 1994, a 23-20 defeat to France. They were held 18-18 by South Africa later that year, but have since won 36 matches on the bounce.

After a slow start to the tour the Lions have won their two most recent warm-up matches, but Saturday’s Test will be just that. A massive test.

The British and Irish Lions face their toughest examination of the 2017 tour of New Zealand so far on Saturday, as they take on the All Blacks in the first of three Test matches.

The Lions are coming off a win over Super Rugby side Chiefs but have already suffered losses against Blues and Highlanders, while the hosts are coming off a huge 78-0 win over Samoa.

With 14 wins in their last 15 Tests―only Ireland have knocked them off their perch―the All Blacks are in sensational form.

As reported by Patrick McKendry of the New Zealand Herald, Lions head coach Warren Gatland knows his team will have to play at a high level to have any chance of winning:

With Billy Vunipola and Ben Youngs no longer in the squad, the Lions have taken some hits during the tour. The visitors still boast tremendous talent―replacing scrum-half Youngs with a star such as Greig Laidlaw is a unique luxury―but the same holds true for the All Blacks.

Ardie Savea will move to the bench to make way for the returning Kieran Read, who will captain the side. Rieko Ioane, the 20-year-old who faced the Lions for the Blues, will also start, per the team’s official website.

Gatland, a native Kiwi, has hinted at a more adventurous tactical plan as opposed to the team’s reliance on the breakdown and kicking game, but given the All Blacks’ incredible ability on the counter and strength out wide, that may not be such a great idea.

THE TEAMS

New Zealand XV: Moody, Taylor, Franks, Retallick, Whitelock, Kaino, Cane, Read (capt), Smith, Barrett, Ioane, Williams, Crotty, Dagg, Smith.

Replacements: Harris, Crockett, Faumuina, Barrett, Savea, Perenara, Cruden/Sopoaga, Lienert-Brown.
Lions XV: Williams, Watson, Davies, Te’o, Daly, Farrell, Murray; Vunipola, George, Furlong, Jones, Kruis, O’Mahony (capt), O’Brien, Faletau

Replacements: Owens, McGrath, Sinckler, Itoje, Warburton, Webb, Sexton, Halfpenny

It’s been short and it can definitely be sweet for Robin McBryde if his shadow Welsh team can conquer the sweltering humidity and a wounded Samoa in Apia on Friday.

The Pacific Islanders head into the contest on the back of a thumping 78-0 defeat to the All Blacks a week agor while only hours earlier Wales were beating Tonga 24-6 at the same Eden Park venue, in Auckland.

But much has changed with McBryde without scrum-half Gareth Davies, prop Tomas Francis, hooker Kristian Dacey and lock Cory Hill to Lions call-ups while wing Alex Cuthbert, a try scorer against Tonga is ruled out with injury.

The 22-year-old former Wales Under-20 captain is one of seven changes to the starting line-up which helped defeat Tonga in Eden Park last Friday. In the backs, Aled Davies makes his first international start at scrum-half, Tyler Morgan lines up at outside centre, and Cory Allen is named on the right wing.

Two of last week’s debutants, hooker Ryan Elias and tighthead Dillon Lewis, also make their first starts, with openside Ellis Jenkins another player to be promoted from the bench.

Cameroon vs Australia Live

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon face the Australia Socceroos in game that will live stream from Russia Thursday with both colorfully named sides absolutely requiring a victory to keep alive any hopes of advancing out of the group stage in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup tournament. But while Cameroon failed to find the net in their opening match, Australia came tantalizingly close to a massive upset in their first game.

Neither emerged with points, as both Group B co-favorites won as expected. South American champions Chile cruised past the Indomitable Lions 2-0 — but reigning World Cup champions Germany barely held on against the high-spirited Socceroos, needing a second-half strike from 22-year-old Schalke star Leon Goretzka to preserve a 3-2 victory.

But Cameroon Manager Hugo Broos said he was happy with his team’s showing against Chile, and the Indomitable Lions now look to return to the form that unexpectedly won them their African title when they face Australia for the first time in the history of both countries — a match that will see the Socceroos attempting to snap a four-game Confederations Cup losing streak.

Can The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon pick themselves up after falling to Group A co-favorites Chile and gain their first win in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia? Or will AFC Asian Cup winners Australia reignite their own Confederations Cup bid, defeating the African Nations champions? State of Origin 2017 Live

New South Wales Blues are one victory away from winning the State of Origin series for just the second time in 12 years and face off with the Queensland Maroons in Game 2 at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday.

The Blues thrashed the Maroons 28-4 in Game 1 at Suncorp Stadium on May 31 and now have the chance to seal a first State of Origin win since 2014 on home soil.

Per News.com.au, the Maroons are likely to be boosted by the return of playmaker Johnathan Thurston, who missed Game 1 with a shoulder injury but is “a definite starter” for Wednesday, according to skipper Cameron Smith.

Maroons coach Kevin Walters has overhauled his side for Game 2 as he looks to mastermind a comeback victory in the series and extend Queensland’s winning run to three in a row.

Along with Thurston, Billy Slater and Gavin Cooper also return to the side, while Nate Myles, Sam Thaiday, Jacob Lillyman, Corey Oates, Aidan Guerra and Justin O’Neill are all dropped, and Anthony Milford is injured.

Valentine Holmes, Coen Hess, Tim Glasby and Jarrod Wallace have all been handed debuts, per NRL:

It is the first time the Blues have named an unchanged State of Origin side in 21 years, and coach Laurie Daley said he was delighted to be able to pick the same players, per Matt Encarnacion of the Australian Associated Press (h/t Stuff.co.nz):

“It’s great to be able to name the same 17 guys again. They did such a great job in game one. But the key for us is to try and repeat that performance.”

A repeat of the hammering the Blues handed out in Game 1 is unlikely.

Per Sporting Life’s Ian Millward, the Maroons’ squad for Game 2 looks much better equipped to deal with the Blues and Thurston’s return could prove crucial in a potentially tight encounter.

Certainly NSW are likely to have to work harder to earn scores than they did at the end of May as the Maroons now boast a potent blend of youth and experience.

Nerves could play a crucial role on Wednesday. The Blues have largely been starved of State of Origin triumphs for over a decade.

Their 2014 victory marked a first shield win since 2005, so they will desperate to convert their Game 1 triumph into a series win, and they will want to get it done sooner rather than later.

Should the Maroons take an early lead and show that they will not be bullied as they were in Game 1, the tension inside Sydney’s ANZ Stadium will ratchet up and could have a major influence on the outcome of the match.

The British and Irish Lions face their final warm-up game before taking on the All Blacks against the Chiefs as the squad is given one last chance to impress in an effort to force their way into the side for the first Test. Follow the latest here.

The British & Irish Lions — the rugby union all-star team with players drawn from all home nations of the United Kingdom as well as Ireland — plays its final warm-up Tuesday before the first international Test match of the 2017 New Zealand tour on Tuesday, a match that will live stream as the Lions take on Chiefs, the current fourth place team on the Australasian Super Rugby table. But Lions Head Coach Warren Gatland has thrown the game wide pine by changing all 15 starting players from his team’s victory on Saturday over Maori All Blacks.

A stellar rugby presenting line-up are bringing you brilliant coverage of the tour, with a punditry team boasting nearly 350 international caps and 15 Lions appearances between them.

Our team of expert commentators, reporters and pundits includes World Cup winner Ben Kay as lead co-commentator for all three Tests against the All Blacks, with fellow former Lion and Welsh legend Shane Williams also a key part of talkSPORT’s coverage for the Test series and other tour matches.

They are joined by one of the greatest Lions of all-time and four times Lions Head Coach, Sir Ian McGeechan, plus former Lion and Irish centre Gordon D’Arcy, and ex-New Zealand scrum-half Justin Marshall to give the Kiwi view on all the action.

The team is completed with talkSPORT’s Weekend Sports Breakfast host Georgie Bingham, talkSPORT’s lead rugby commentator Andrew McKenna and talkSPORT’s rugby correspondent Russell Hargreaves.

Northern Ireland’s 34-year-old hooker Rory Best gets his first opportunity to captain the Lions in Hamilton, New Zealand, with six players on the side getting into a game for the first time on the tour on which the Lions have already played five matches.

The Chiefs side, however, will likely feature no players set to start for New Zealand in Saturday’s first Test match, to three scheduled on the 10-date tour. But for the Lions, several players will be trying to impress Gatland enough to earn a starting spot in the Eden Park test just four days later.

Royal Ascot 2017 Live

Royal Ascot 2017 will be broadcast in 175 territories with a reach of 650 million households this week through Ascot’s media rights arrangements with Pitch International and Racecourse Media Group (RMG).
Uniquely in Britain, every race will be carried live on ITV1, whilst Irish viewers will see the meeting on free-to-watch television channel TV3.
In the US, the agreement with NBC aligns Ascot with a globally-renowned broadcasting powerhouse, while also doubling the reach of Ascot in that market. Last year NBC was the only network in the US to achieve viewership growth in the US (up 8%) and in the 18-49 demographic (up 3%). Its main NBC channel reaches 97% of US households while its cable sports channel – NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) – is in 78 million homes.
There will be over four hours of coverage daily on NBCSN, whilst the Royal Procession and fashion highlights will feature in the main network’s flagship “Today” morning programme.
Nick Luck will front the NBCSN programme from Ascot and also on course will be an array of presenting talent from the Middle East, reflecting the importance of Royal Ascot to that key market.
The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region will be served by live coverage from Dubai Racing Channel, Abu Dhabi Sports, BeIN Sports and Al Kass.
Deals in markets such as Russia (Match TV), Sub-Saharan Africa (Kwese) and China (Sina) take Ascot out from behind paywalls in some of the largest markets; In China, the Sina deal not only makes Ascot available to over 200 million broadband households, but will also promote the event to social media platform Sina Weibo’s 600 million active users.
Exposure through Eurosport across Europe and Asia also maximises reach (over 150 million households). Eurosport.com with over 33 million monthly unique users is Europe’s most visited sports website, while its mobile App generates 16 million downloads per day and its social media accounts have over 10 million followers.
Through OTT platforms such as DAZN in Germany, Ascot is being broadcast through some of the most innovative and progressive channels, ensuring the event reaches younger, diverse and digitally aware audiences.
British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) will ensure that over 20,000 British troops and personnel serving overseas will be able to watch ITV’s output.
SNTV (Sports News TV),the leading sports news video agency, will distribute coverage to news outlets around the world, whilst Sky Sports News, BBC News and various overseas news crews will also be on site. CNN is covering the meeting for its World Sport and Winning Post broadcasts.
More than 40,000 betting shops across 43 countries will show the action, while 40 online bookmakers will stream live coverage. RMG’s TV channel, Racing UK, will also show the race to 50,000 subscribers and in 6,000 pubs and clubs in the UK and Ireland.
BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT, including the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show, will be on site and broadcasting live coverage and commentaries to their listeners. Racing UK Radio, which syndicates audio on behalf of Ascot Racecourse, will distribute to regional, national and international news stations and BBC Radio Berkshire will be based on site all week giving extensive through the day flavour of the event from a regional perspective.

But as Royal Ascot closes in, and then thrusts itself on one, it’s easy to melt a little, and start to wallow in the glory of the showpiece fixture.

Let’s be real people. Ascot is pretty damn cool. Although it’s going to be hot this week, which will make it even cooler if you get what I mean!

You have to be a pretty dull person to think that top class Flat horses, sensational fashion and lots of champagne doesn’t bode for a good day out.

So while the passion for the on track action at Cheltenham will never be surpassed by any Flat race, Ascot is still something very special.

It’s even more special for me this week, as I’ll be on network TV at the fixture for the first time. ITV shows every race every day, and I hope you love the coverage.
